Under the name Euronymous, Aarseth was the original guitarist and co-founding member of the Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem. Also, founder and owner of the record label Deathlike Silence Productions and owner of the record shop Helvete.

Murdered by fellow musician Varg Vikernes.
