Linda Kay Engler, 63, died April 7, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Linda was born on Nov. 9, 1947, the daughter of Arnold and Beverly (Beecham) Erikson in Madison, S.D. She graduated in 1966 from Howard High School. She attended Dakota State in Madison and Graceland College in Southern Iowa. She was united in marriage to Duane Engler on Oct. 21, 1989, in Hayfield. Linda worked as a nurse for more than 25 years. She worked at St. Marys Hospital, Field Crest Care Center and most recently at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center. Linda took great pride in her role as a nurse and will be greatly missed by her co-workers and the residents. Linda was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Oaks Golf Course. She was an avid golfer in golf leagues, enjoyed bowling when the children were young, and enjoyed fishing in the early years.

A must for Linda was making chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. She was a caregiver by nature, and she enjoyed watching every episode of Law and Order.

Linda is survived by her husband, Duane Engler of Hayfield; son, A.J. (Shelly) Anderson, Hayfield; two daughters, Bev (Mick) O'Connor, Austin and Samantha (Jamie) Shaw, Hayward, Wis.; five grandchildren, Sidney Anderson, Michael and Mason O'Connor, Jakob and Seth Shaw; mother, Beverly Erikson, Howard, S.D.; siblings, Larry (Diana) Erikson, Scranton, Iowa; Lois (Dale) Brinkman of Watertown, S.D.; Lavern (Judy) Erikson, West Fargo, N.D.; LaDonna (Jim) Schneider, Gettysburg, S.D.; and Leslie (Brenda) Erikson, Brandon, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her father and first husband, Allard Anderson.

The funeral service for Linda Kay Engler will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First Street SE in Hayfield with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home 501 Second Street NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Family prefers memorials to Hayfield Fie Department or the Cancer Society.
