STONEWALL, LA - Services to honor the life of Mr. Verlin A. Hemphill, 70, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in NW Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery in Keithville, LA. The family will receive guests on Monday evening between the hours of 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Verlin was born September 2, 1940, in Oak Grove, LA to parents, Albert John Hemphill and the late Mrs. Doris Madden Hemphill. He passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 24, 2011.
Verlin served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. His many accomplishments and memberships included Air Traffic Controller, President of Air Traffic Controller Union and National Convention Representative, Post Commander and lifetime member of VFW Post 7685, American Legion Post 6, and 15 years experience managing landfill operation in Monroe and Shreveport, LA. In addition to all these, he was foremost a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Verlin was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Madden Hemphill. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 12 years, Mayme Million Hemphill; father, Albert John Hemphill and wife, June of Bastrop, LA; five daughters, Dana Anderson, Nikie Hemphill, Stacey McKeand and husband, Billy, Patricia Grandmaiter, and Wendy Graham and husband, Robert; two step-daughters, Sally Kelley and husband, Robert, and Jackie Cayton; two sisters, Glenda DeMoss and husband, Mike, and Linda Sue Cordova and husband, Jesse; three brothers, J.R. Hemphill (Phyllis), Alfred Hemphill and wife, Jerry, and Cleatis Hemphill; eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Justin Martin, Jeremy Hemphill, Robert Graham, Steven Hemphill, Benji Hemphill, and Michael Hemphill.
