3 Former Carnegie Residents Killed In Kansas Plane Crash

Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon at Willis, Texas, for Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Barton, Duncan and their niece, Mrs. L. Martell Weisinger, Willis, Texas, all former Carnegie residents, who were victims of a plane crash Sunday at Parsons, Kans., which also took the life of the pilot, Vernon Latham, also of Duncan.

Barton was a Carnegie banker for 33 years.
The group were enroute to Rochester, Minn., where Mr. Barton was to undergo a checkup at Mayo clinic.
The four-seat Beechcraft, owned by Hardy Brooks Funeral home at Duncan, had been chartered by the Bartons for the trip. The plane crashed in a field northeast of Parsons, during a storm shortly afternoon. It was an ambulance
plant but had only been chartered for the trip.

Barton, 72-years-old, and a native of Kaufman, Texas, came to Crawford, Okla., as a young man and later moved to Oklahoma City where he was employed in a bank.

The Bartons came to Carnegie in 1920 where they were associated with CH. Griffith of Lone Wolf and J.A. Hyndman of Chickasha in the bank here, until they
became sole owners of it. They sold the Local bank in 1953 to the late Stancel E. Johnson.

Following the sale of the bank here, the Bartons went to Oklahoma City where they were associated with James C. Hammill and Herbert Hope in the Capitol Hill State bank for a year. They bought a bank at Temple, Okla. in 1955. After the sale of the Oklahoma City bank they returned to Carnegie for awhile before moving to Duncan in 1958.

Mr. and Mrs. Barton were member of the Christian church and he was a member of the local chamber of commerce and Masonic lodge for a number of years. Mrs. Barton was active in the Delphian club and the South Side club while living here.

Mrs. Weisinger, the former Lorraine Wharton, was a 1931 graduate of Carnegie high school and lived here for about four years. Her mother, Mrs. J.B. Wharton, and an aunt, Mrs. Roy Watson, are surviving sister of Mr. Barton.

The two sisters were in ill health and unable to come to Oklahoma and at their request the single service was held, according to Leslie Pain, Anadarko, a close friend of the Bartons.
