Dora Eleanor Britt , 86, Kearney, MO, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Westbrook Assisted Living and Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2005, at the First Christian Church, 2151 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO. Burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smithville, MO. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m., Friday, at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church Building Fund. Mrs. Britt was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Oscar D. and Martha Smith Francis. She moved to the United States at an early age. Mrs. Britt was reared in Kearney and had lived in the Smithville -Kearney area all her life. She was a graduate of Kearney High School and Teachers' College at Warrensburg, MO,(CMSU). As a young teacher, Mrs. Britt taught at Mt. Gilead , and Paradise, both one-room schools located in the Kearney and Smithville area. She taught 2nd grade for the Smithville Public Schools, retiring in 1980, after 30 years in education. She was a former member of the Missouri State Teacher's Association. Mrs. Britt was a member of the Kearney First Christian Church, where she was very active in the "Young at Hearts" Sunday School Class. During her life, she enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer Thomas Britt , who died in 1984, as well as two brothers, Lawrence, and Lewis Francis. She is survived by one son, Roger F. Britt , and his wife, Sue, Kansas City; a daughter, Linda Lemon, and her husband, Bob, Warsaw, MO; a brother, Albert Francis Hamilton, Ohio; grandchildren, Tracy Williams, Michael Lemon, David Lemon, as well as great-grandchildren, Shea, and Ryan Williams.
