Brooklet - W.K. "Kemple" Jones, 85, died Thursday at Heritage Inn in Statesboro. The native of Laurens County had lived in Brooklet for over 65 years, where he owned and operated a sawmill, building supply, farm, stave mill, cooper shop and turpentine still. He was a director emeritus of the Farmers & Merchants Bank, a former city councilman and a member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nellie Hill Jones, Brooklet; one daughter, Jacquita J. Jenkins, Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerome and Ginny Jones, Leefield, Jarell and Joy Jones, Statesboro, and Jeff and Carol Jones, Statesboro; a sister, Juanita J. Bradford, Brooklet; a sister-in-law, Roberta E. Jones, Brooklet; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Brooklet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Williams officiating. Burial will be in Brooklet Cemetery. Hodges-Turner Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jerome K. Jones Jr., James L. Jones, Williams J. Jones Jr., Jeremy K. Jones, Jordan H. Jones, Dwayne M. Jenkins and E. Thomas Jenkins Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and directors of Farmers & Merchants Bank.
