Thurman Ray Hillsberry, longtime resident of Sand Springs died peacefully in Creek County at the home of his son on February 24, 2011. Thurman was the son of Henry and Arvenie Wadkins Hillsberry, born in Madill, Oklahoma, on June 11, 1925.

As a young child he came with his family to Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He lived in the Fisher community and attended school there and also at Sand Springs High School. He married Loyce Miller on May 12, 1945, in Tulsa. They enjoyed 57 plus years together.

Thurman was in the Navy in World War II, serving on the USS Shangri-La, an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. Thurman retired from Armco/Sheffield Steel as a welder after being employed more than 30 years. In younger years he enjoyed playing baseball, later he became a golfer.

He and Loyce had four children.

He is survived by his second wife; two sons and their wives; a sister and husband; six grandsons and wives; two granddaughters; two step-children and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews plus a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Loyce, his daughters Judy Lynn Meyers, and Navonda Beth Rhodes; sisters, Eunice Campbell, Lorene Martin, brothers Bud, Leslie, A.J., and Atchi Lee, and grandson Dale Hollscroft Hillsberrry.

Visitation is Saturday, February, 26, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday February 27, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Mobley-Dodson. Funeral services will be at Olivet Baptist Church on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Scott Palmer officiating.

Friends may, in lieu of flowers, send memorial donations to the building fund at Olivet Baptist Church, 155 N. 65 W. Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74127
