Jewell Martin
CHESHIRE - Jewell Martin, 87, died Friday, April 23, 1999 in the Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.
Born June 30, 1911 in Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va., daughter of the late Harry and Zenna Shahan Martin, she graduated from Point Pleasant (W.Va.) High School in 1930, and was a graduate of the Booth Business College in Huntington, W.Va.
She was employed by the law firm of Halliday & Sheets and the Gallia County Re-employment Office in Gallipolis, before joining her husband, Paul, in Martin's Standard Oil Service Station in Cheshire, which they operated for 45 years.
She attended the Jordan Baptist Church in Gallipolis Ferry, and was a member of the Cheshire Baptist Church and the Atath Missionary Society. She was a 45-year member of the Cheshire Garden Club.
She was also preceded in death on March 10, 1980 by her husband Paul E. Martin, whom she married Dec. 13, 1936 in Bidwell; and by twin sisters in infancy.
Surviving are a daughter, Katie (Paul) Shoemaker of Cheshire; and a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, with the Rev. Harold Tracewell officiating. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire.
Friends may call at the chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
