He enlisted on September 27, 1861 and was mustered into Co. E. 41st Mississippi on May 1, 1862 at Verona, Mississippi for 3 years "or the war". Listed on the Confederate Roll of Honor on dated October 3, 1863 for "Bravery at the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, December, 1862". He was wounded in September, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, sent to a hospital in Atlanta and furloughed for 30 days on October 4, 1863. Again wounded slightly in Right Shoulder on July 24, 1864 at Atlanta, Georgia and sent to a Confederate Hospital in Macon, Georgia. Andrew was killed at the Battle of Franklin fought on November 30, 1864. Andrew also lost brother James L. Anderson of the 2nd Mississippi Infantry killed at the Battle of Weldon Railroad in Petersburg, Virginia in August, 1864. Other brothers who served and survived the war were: William T. Anderson (1839-1883), Carter M. Anderson (1847-1920) and John P. Anderson (1832-1906).
