John R. Stidman was the son of Calvin and Sarah Stidman. Calvin was born in Tennessee in 1827 and his career as a soldier in the Civil War is well documented. By 1860, Calvin and Sarah had moved to Camden County, MO. Their children in that census include William I., John R., Seth H., and George W. It is believed that Calvin died in Tunas, Dallas, MO in 1899.
John R. Stidman married Rachel C. Faultner, the daughter of William and Jane Faultner with whom he had six children. It is thought that he also had one child by Rachel's sister, Mary Ellen, but he did not marry her. Both Rachel and Mary Ellen died in Oklahoma in 1930, Mary Ellen in Depew, Creek County.
The children of John R. and Rachel C. Stidman include: William Riley (1885-), Edger Calvin (1888-1980), Henry H. (1891-1966), John T. (1894-1918), General (1895-) and Pearl Mae (1902-1971).
