Daughter of Ferguson Shupe and Katherine Lanter. Tennie was most likey born either Sullivan County, Tennesse (her mother and father were here in 1840) but could have also been born in Grayson County, Virginia (her mother and father were here in 1850). Sister to Granville Mitchell Shupe, John Daniel Shupe, William Sampson Shupe, Eliza J Shupe, Lavenia Rachel Shupe, James Monroe Shupe, Thomas Burgases Shupe, Henry Clay Shupe, Elizabeth M Shupe, Margaret A Shupe, and Daniel J Shupe. Her death certificate indicates she was widowed at the time of her death, however, I am unable to determine the name of her husband at this time. She did have children because she was living with her son-in-law John F Patton in the 1910 census for Big Stone Gap.
The headstone for Tennie indicates a birth date of 1849 and a death date of 1925, however, census records for Tennie indicate her date of birth could be as early as 1841 and her death certificate indicates a death date of 1927.
