Actor. Born Frederick Leonard Clark, he was a popular character actor best known for his style of comedy few others perfected. He began his career on Broadway and after serving as a US Navy pilot in World War II, returned to acting making his film debut in "The Unsuspected" (1947). His many other film credits included "Sunset Blvd." (1950), "A Place in the Sun" (1951), "Living It Up" (1954), "Daddy Long Legs" (1955), "Mardi Gras" (1958) and "Boys Night Out" (1962). He enjoyed his biggest success on television adding his brand of comedy as a regular on series such as "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show", "Burke's Law", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show". He also gained much attention performing in TV commercials. He remained active until his sudden death of liver disease at age 54.
