US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the US House of Representatives for Louisiana's 3rd congressional district from January 1937 until January 1941. Following his graduation from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana, he was engaged in a number of activities, to include working for the US Customs Agency in Haiti. During World War I, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served as an interpreter and intelligence officer. Following the war, he pursued horticultural interests while serving as mayor of Lafayette from 1919 until 1927 and again from 1931 until 1936. In 1936 he was elected to his first of two congressional terms, succeeding Numa Francois Montet. He was an unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination in 1940 and was succeeded by James R. Domengeaux. After leaving office, he resumed his horticultural interests as well as real estate. He died at the age of 64.
