Eric was a remarkable 19-year-old majoring in Molecular Biology at the University of California at Berkeley. On the day of his death, Erick was cycling on a country road in broad daylight when he was violently struck by another 19-year-old driver who was texting while driving.

Eric Phillip Okerblom was born Jan 28, 1990 in Santa Maria. He attended St. Louis de Montfort and St. Joseph High School before completing his freshmen year at the University of California at Berkley in Molecular Biology. A National Merit Finalist, he also excelled in sports and was a seven time varsity letterman. Eric had breadth of interests that included photography, music, science, travel, a gift of art and recently bicycling.

He was one of the most sincere, understanding, generous, curious, intelligent and authentic souls any of us have ever known. With wisdom far beyond his years, Eric often spoke of his plans to contribute to and improve our world.

Our beloved Eric died in a tragic accident while bicycling on July 25, 2009. Eric's departure leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his mother Eilene, father Bob, sister Jenna, brother Ryan, grandparents Pauline and Victor, his beloved Holly, greater family and friends. We love him so much and will treasure any memories his friends have to share.

A Memorial service will be held at St. Louis de Montfort Church on Friday, July 31 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow in the St. Louis Hall. Donations in his name can be made to Microloans Foundation USA, an entity that provides loans to people who just need a chance to help themselves, at 1170 Massachusetts Ave Suite 223, Cambridge, MA 02140. Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory. Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary & Crematory (805) 922-8463 www.dudleyhoffmanmortuary.com
