Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Jan. 2, 1977, Sunday:

Byron Russell, 82, of 132 Atlantic died at 8:05 a.m. Saturday at Schumpert Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was a native of Parsons, Kan., and had lived in Shreveport for 75 years. Mr. Russell was retired from City Service Oil Co.

He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and was a World War I veteran. He was a 53-year member of Broadmoor Blue Lodge No. 432, El Karubah Shrine, Scottish Rites, Knights Templar No. 6 of York Rites, American Legion Post No. 14 and the 40 and 8 Club Voiture No. 137.

Mr. Russell had been a past state commander and past commander of the American Legion.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Cooke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Zama Holley Russell; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Russell McInnis of Shreveport and Mrs. Shirley Russell Sheehy of Houston, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Thelma Parrish Davis of El Paso, Tex.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Louis Plaisance, Clint Holley, Boyd Holley, Edward Holley, K. D Holley, George Norton, Emmett McDowell and H. L. Holland.
