John Paul 'Mose' George passed away, surrounded by his family, at his home in Holdenville on Sunday morning, January 9, 2011. He was 78 years old. Mose was the son of Sarney & Emma (Brunner) George, born on February 8, 1932, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Holdenville area and attended Hulsey schools. He married Pauline Joan Patty on September 30, 1950, at Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Mose worked for many years as a farmer/rancher for the Chapman Ranch, and later for the Echols Ranch, retiring in 1970. He was of the Baptist faith, and was baptized on January 26, 1947. He was a member of the Many Springs Baptist Church and served as Head Deacon. His church was very important to him, and he loved to mow the church lawn and keep it looking neat. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he liked to make things with his hands. He loved the town of Holdenville, his lifelong home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sarney & Emma George; his wife, Pauline; one daughter, Joann George; two brothers, William George, Sr. and Bennie George; two sisters, Liza Davis and Stella Harjo. He is survived by ten children: Gabe George, Sr. and wife Jackie of Dallas, Texas, Clem George and companion Anita Waldroup of Holdenville, Rick George and wife Ruby of Gerty, Queenie Bessinger and husband Bill of Holdenville, Jeanette Sneddon and husband Greg of Barstow, Florida, Lou Wanda Merriman and husband Robert, of Holdenville, Eva Peace and husband Jack, also of Holdenville, Eve George of Gerty, Penny Isham and husband Glen of Holdenville, and Lee Mae Travis of Shawnee; three grandsons Mose raised as his own: Corey George and Danny George, both of Holdenville, and Gabe George, Jr. of Coffeyville, Kansas; 32 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Factor of Holdenville, and three sisters: Nora Tiger of Holdenville, Nellie Baldwin of Spaulding and Mary Lee Felicioni of Holdenville; numerous other relatives and many, many friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 13, 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Holdenville, and Mose will be laid to rest in the George Family Cemetery. Preceding the funeral will be two wake services: Tuesday, January 11, 7:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel, and Wednesday, January 12, 7:00 p.m. at the Mose George home. Mose will be transported to his home on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
