Catherine Ellen Clark
Catherine Ellen Clark, daughter of Charles and Josephine Higbee French was born at Maxwell, Iowa on October 14, 1905 and passed on to be with her Heavenly Father at her home in Woodburn, Iowa on Wednesday, December 6, 1978 at the age of 73 years, one month and 22 days. Catherine graduated from Simpson College with a major in music and taught music for several years at Russell, Decatur City and Derby.
It was while she was teaching at Russell in 1935 that she married Thurman Clark at Maxwell, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.
Catherine was a member of the Woodburn Chapter #342 of Order of Eastern Star member of the Past Matron's Club; member and officer of the White Shrine at Chariton and a member of the D A R at Osceola. Catherine was a member of the United Methodist Church at Woodburn, Iowa and her life was filled with taking part in Gospel Music and working in her church.
She is survived by her husband, Thurman of Woodburn, a son, John Carroll Clark and wife Luanne of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a son, Charles Elmer Clark and wife Jeanne of Des Moines, six grandchildren, one sister, Josephine Strother of Maxwell, one brother, John French of Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lloyd and one brother, Charles French.
Funeral services were held at the Webster Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, on Saturday, December 9, 1978 at 1.30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Bell of Murray officiating. Interment in the Woodburn Cemetery at Woodburn, Iowa.
