Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. There will be a prayer service offered at 4 p.m. Sunday that all are invited to attend.
Betty York was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Davenport, a daughter of Elmer and Mary Mennig York. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy in 1944. Betty was united in marriage to Carl Edwin Graw Jr. on Nov. 28, 1946, at Holy Family Church. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2000.
Mrs. Graw retired from the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions & Chemical Command at Rock Island Arsenal as a supply systems analyst after 28 years. In earlier years, she was employed by Petersen-Harned-Von Maur for 10 years as a billing clerk.
Her memberships include the church, Von Maur Employees Club, Daughters of Isabella, Women of the Moose, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and Plus 60.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Thomas Donahue, Livonia, Mich.; a granddaughter, Diane Donahue, Penn State University Dickinson School of Law, Pennsylvania; a grandson, David Donahue, Western Michigan State University, Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister, Virginette Smith, Silvis; a sister-in-law, Irene York, Davenport; special nieces and nephews, Harriet Beardslee, Marilyn Chatfield, Sherry Doberiner, Connie Welk, Marsha York and Theresa Plunkett, Terry York, Don York, Steve York and Patrick York. In addition to her husband and parents, four sisters and five brothers also preceded her in death.
