Born Jan. 21, 1928, in Esmond, the daughter of George and Lela (Neff) Mowers, she married Wilfred G. Deutsch on Nov. 26, 1949, in Genoa.
Iva and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Sycamore. She worked very hard on the farm, but still found time to baby-sit, garden, can vegetables, decorate wedding cakes and bake pies for bingo at St. Mary's Church. She was a devoted member of the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore, where she served on the Parish Council. She was a member of Brown Swiss Association and DeKalb County Quilters Guild.
Iva is survived by her six children, Georgia Kennel of Kingman, Ariz., Jacquelynn (Harold) Overton of Sycamore, Katherine (Karl) Koehling of Lee, and Donna Fraedrich, William (Christine) Deutsch and Patrick (Regina) Deutsch, all of Sycamore; 14 grandchildren, John (Amy) Kennel, Shelia (Robert) Picking, Jarold (Patty) Overton, Anthony Overton, Christopher (Laura) Flink, Nicholas (Erin) Flink, Donovan Flink, Alan, Daine and Zachary Fraedrich, Sarah, Mary, Rachel and Paul Deutsch; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Warren (Betty) Mowers of Rochelle; one sister, Irene (Wilbur) Knight of Genoa; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Mowers of Toulon and Eileen Montavon of Poplar Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred, in 1982; one granddaughter, Alexandra; and three brothers, Raymond, Lawrence and Edward in infancy.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore, with Fr. Frank J. Timar, M.S.C., officiating. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the local family-owned and -operated Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with a wake service recited at 7:30 p.m.
