Mrs. Camp was born May 26, 1919 in Etowah County, the daughter of the late Pat & Mamie Webb Garrard. The Garrard and Webb families were among the earliest families to settle Sand Mountain. Mrs. Camp’s parents returned to Albertville in the 1920s, when they bought a farm and developed Big Spring Lake, a public swimming, skating, dancing, and golfing venue. The family operated Big Spring Lake until it sold to the Albertville Golf and Country Club in the 1950s.
She married Jesse Carvel Camp on June 24, 1938 in Albertville. They were married for 55 years, until he passed away in 1993. They had two children. Mr. Camp was a long-time bookkeeper for the Marshall County Board of Education and Mrs. Camp was beautician for more than 30 years, operating salons in downtown Albertville and at her home on Miller Street, as well as the Cut-N-Curl Salon in the 1970s.
After their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Camp bought an historic home on East Main Street in Albertville and spend several years remodeling it.
In her later years, Mrs. Camp enjoyed gardening, reading, shopping for antiques and going to senior citizen dances. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Albertville for many years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim & Carolyn Camp of Grant; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Harold Hassebrock of Yorba Linda, CA; and a grandson, Jesse Hassebrock of Yorba Linda, CA.
Services will be held at 1pm Friday, May 8, 2015 at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home with Bro. Howard Lefevor officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11am until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Heath Thomas, David Garrard, Bill Garrard, Harold Hassebrock, David Kelley, Jason Thomas, and Michael LeBeau.
