 Col. Bomford was CO of Davids' Island Military Reservation (later Ft. Slocum) NY, 1870-1872), just after the 8th Inf. finished Reconstruction duty in SC and just before the regiment shipped out West for the Indian Wars. Later a road on post would be named for him.
