WINSTON-SALEM - Ruth Ellen Beasley, age 84, of Old Thomasville Road, Winston-Salem, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Canaan United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chuck Ireson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her son on Old Thomasville Road. Mrs. Beasley was born May 5, 1926 in Alamance County to Marshall Moody Ellington and Nina McPeak Ellington. She was a member of the Rosie the Riveter Women's work force in the Norfolk Virginia Naval ship yard during World War II. She was preceded in death by three sisters; Doris Cook, Betty Ann Boyles and Katherine Cook. Surviving are a son, James W. Beasley III and wife, Leslie, of Midway; one daughter, Rebecca Justice and husband, Danny, of Lexington; two brothers, Marshall "Bud" Ellington and wife, Nancy, of Virginia and William "Bill" Ellington, and wife, Virginia, "Jennie" of Winston Salem; four grandchildren, Jamie Beasley, Jay Beasley, Debra Carlton and Danny Ryan Justice; six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem NC 27103.
