Civil War Union Army Officer. Commissioned on October 13, 1862 as Colonel and commander of the 43rd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, which was a 9-month enlistment regiment. Served with his unit in the Army of the James, and commanded a brigade from May 23 to June 24, 1863. When his unit’s enlistment was up in July 1863, he was honorably mustered out.
