William Arthur Keith, the older brother of Sylvester and Lucetta Keith, was born, 10/21/1843 in Washington County, OH and moved before 1850 to Gallipolis, OH then to Mason, WV [Note: Mason was in Virginia at that time.] before 1860. He enlisted as a private, 6/5/1861, with the 4th West Virginia Infantry and he served until 7/4/1864.

William was a coal miner in Stark County, OH when he married Permelia Myers, Independence Day of 1865; they had at least 9 children. Permelia died, 7/30/1891 in Poca, WV and she was buried there in Poca Cemetery. After Permelia's death, William left West Virginia and was a miner in Fremont County and Trinidad, CO. He died as the result of a mine cave-in, 3/8/1912 in Trinidad and was buried there in the Masonic Cemetery.
