Wenatchee World - Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Mom died in my arms on November 13, 2010, at Harmony House in Brewster, just 16 days before her 92nd birthday. She was born November 29, 1918, at Wilbur, WA, to Joe and Florence Kunz. She was raised in the Sherman area, north of Wilbur, where her family farmed. She married Clarence Davis on November 18, 1938, in Spokane and they started their married life on his farm west of Coulee City. They raised four children on the farm and when the kids got involved with school activities, they would move into town for the winter. She belonged to the PTA, Eastern Star, DAR, Presbyterian Church and was a 65+ year member of the Grange. She was also a leader for Blue Birds, Campfire Girls and the Cub Scouts. She had lots of crafts and hobbies, and loved it best when there were lots of kids in the house and in the yard doing different projects. For many years, she painted the front window of our house at Christmas time and later, she put up a Christmas scene in the front window for all to see. She made all her grandkids and great-grandkids a quilt, painting different nursery rhymes and characters on each square and their own name painted on their quilt. Mom and Dad loved to travel, going south for many winters. They also loved the Coast and had a home for a while at Copalis Beach. After Dad passed away in 1985, she started volunteering at school in the reading program for one and a half hours every day for 15 years, until she broke her leg in 2001, and started residing at Harmony House in Brewster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1985; her daughters, Freda Gaines in 2003 and Cheryl Duvall in 2007; granddaughter, Lynette Gaines Baseal in 1997; her siblings and their mates: brother, John (Laura Belle) Kunz; and sisters, May (Frank) Barrington and Margaret (Al) Hall. She is survived by a daughter, Leona (Dave) Hanson of Wenatchee WA and Yuma, AZ; a son, Ed (Paula) Davis of Parker, CO; a son-in-law, Ron Duvall of Coulee City; 12 grandkids, Jacqueline, Yevette, Brian, Alona, Swen, Kye, Carl, Chad, Glen, Brenda, Christi and Todd; 24 great-grandkids; and five great-great-grandkids. Thanks to her wonderful family at Harmony House and especially Sandy and Pat.

Services will be at First Presbyterian Church in Coulee City at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010. Burial will be at Sherman Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Waterville Funeral Home on Friday, November 19, 2010, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by the Waterville Funeral Home.
