Azariah H. Rodgers was the eighth of eleven known children of Thomas Alexander Rodgers (1815-1877) and Charlotte Shelby Rodgers (1819-1887), who married on 14 Jul 1835 at Shelby Precinct, Edwards County, Illinois.

Azariah first married to Martha Ann Clodfelter (1853-1883) on 16 Aug 1877 at Edwards County, Illinois. Azariah and Martha were the parents of three known children, namely:

1. Alminta Rodgers Slover Walker (1877-1947)
2. Jeremiah "Jerry" Rodgers (1879-1962)
3. John W. Rodgers (1882-1965)

After Martha's death, Azariah remarried to the widower (with King children) Emily Jane "Emma" Holcomb King (1858-1931) on 26 Feb 1884 at Edwards County, Illinois. Emma was first married to Joshua D. King (1852-1884) with two known children: Arthur Lee King (1879-1945) and Elizabeth Ellen King Nettleton (1882-1938). Azariah and Emily were the parents of four known children, namely:

5. Otis Charles Rodgers (1889-1968)
6. Bessie Rodgers Gorton (1894-p1968)
7. Emma Rodgers Sager Langohr (1896-p1955)

In 1880 Azariah, Martha, Artela (age 6, daughter of Azariah?), Alminta and Jeremiah were living at Edwards County, Illinois. Who was Artela? Was Azariah married a first time previous to Martha? In 1900 Azariah (a farmer), Emma (mother of eight, four living) and children Henry, Otis, Bessie and Emma were living at Shelby Precinct, Edwards County, Illinois.

Azariah's death certificate says he was preceded in death by four children. It is not known if they were from Ace's first wife, his 2nd wife, or of his 2nd wife's 1st husband.
