As a Madame during the Civil War years, Haycraft had a lucrative business in her house. Despite her wealth she was refused a burial plot in Bellefontaine Cemetery. After exerting pressure on the trustees, they reluctantly sold her a large plot on the condition that no tombstone or marker of any kind be placed on the lot. To this day, there is no marker and she rests alone in the 21-grave plot.
