The Rev. Damon L. Helton, 78 of Corbin passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at his home.

He was born in Knox County Feb. 3, 1925 to the late Don Helton and Lillie (Pridemore) Helton. He worked as a coal miner in Harlan County for several years, 23 years at National Standard Co. in Corbin and pastored several churches in the Harlan, Corban, and Barbourville area. He was a member of Keck Baptist Church of Gray and a memeber of the Masonic Lodge, also of Gray.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jewell (Cox) Helton; two sons, Phillip Wayne Helton and wife Willa of Corbin and James Russell Helton and wife Glenda, also of Corbin; five grandchildren, all of Corbin; and 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Opal Campbell of Harlan, Valdean Jones of VanBuren, Ark., and Donna Smith of Cawood. He is also survived by a great host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m at the Hart Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Gallion officiating. Burial will follow in Dowis Chapel Cemetery.

The Cumberland Valley Lodge #751 will confer Masonic rites at 7 p.m. today (Monday), Dec 1, 2003 at the Hart Funeral Home.

The family will be receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.
