James Alfred (Jap) Puryear, 88, of Senatobia, died Saturday, September 23 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. Mr. Puryear was the retired owner of Puryear Lumber Company in Senatobia, a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corporation, a former president of the senatobia Lions Club, one of the originators of the Sardis Lake Christian Camp, a cattleman for many years, a past president of the Thyatira School Board, and a life long member of the Senatobia Church of Christ.

Services were held Tuesday, September 26 at Senatobia Church of Christ with interment in Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia. Active pallbearers were Parley Holliday, Jr., Harry Embrey, Emmett Collinsworth, John Blakely, Sid Johnson, Paul McCullar, Calvin Seago and Bob H. Meacham. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Hyde, Carl Ellis, Glen Hobbs, Ed Gardner, Walter Hyde, Gayle Price and Charles Dean. David Chadwell officiated.

Mr. Puryear is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Puryear of Senatobia; one daughter, Janie Holliday of Highland, Utah; one son, Kenneth B. Puryear of Senatobia; five grandchildren; and 12 greqat-grandchildren.
