Bless you General. They took the Custis family plantation that you were trying to save for posterity, and made it a National Cemetary for the war dead- not for you, and not for the other side of the Nation that were sacrificed in the war, the brothers that bled on this soil to make this nation. JFK rests on your home farm, in Arlington where you raised your children. I think he would have been proud to rest arm in arm with you. Soldiers uncounted rest in Arlington where you tried to free your people ad advert a war. You were a soldier above all dear General, and a teacher after that. Maybe it's fitting you don't rest on Arlington, but in a place of peace, well earned.

To one of the greatest generals in American history, who managed to keep the Confederate cause afloat by his genius for four years. Slavery may be wrong, but none can doubt your honest motives. Rest in peace.
