THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Tuesday, August 7, 1923: 'DIED AT HOME NEAR JENNINGS - Funeral Services to Be Held at Residence With Burial at Evergreen Cemetery - J. B. Ellis, a well known farmer of Lamar county, died at 7:15 o'clock Sunday evening at his home eight miles southeast of Paris in the Ozark community. He had been in failing health for three or four years and rarely came to town. The funeral service will be held this morning at 10 o'clock at his late residence and will be conducted by Rev. S. S. Crain of West Paris, assisted by Rev. R. A. Walker of Biardstown. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Ellis was born in Cave Springs, Ga., and was 81 years old last May. He had been a resident of Lamar county a long time and was a successful farmer and one of the foremost citizens of his community, having been held in high esteem by his acquaintances. He was married twice, his second wife having been a sister of Jesse Hannah of Paris and of Hardy Hannah of Denton, whom he married some time after the death of his first wife. He is survived by her and the following children, all born of the first marriage: Chas. F. Ellis of the Ozark community and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Skidmore and Mrs. Armstrong of Biardstown. Besides his family, he is survived by a brother, C. C. Ellis, formerly of Paris, who is now living with his son in Houston. He served in the Confederate army and was a member of Albert Sidney Johnston camp which will attend the funeral in a body.
