Carl C. Johnson
1867 – 1954

Carl C. Johnson, son of the late Christian and Margaret Halverson Johnson, was born in Norway April 28, 1867. He came to this country with his parents when a year old. They homesteaded on a farm in Buffalo County, known as the Montana Ridge, where he grew to manhood. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In the year 1894, he was united in marriage to Olena Wulff. They farmed his brother Hans' farm for two years and then they purchased the farm where his son Oscar now lives. To this union five children were born.
He spent most of his life in this community with the exception of the last nine years when they have lived at Badger Iowa. The last two and one-half years they lived with their daughter Tena.
He has been in falling health for sometime and became critically ill at the home of his son Clarence and passed away on Sunday June 20, at 9:30 a.m. They had been visiting for two weeks at the home of their sons Clarence and Oscar.
He has been a member of Evanger Lutheran Church since 1912. While livig at Badger, he was associated with Badger Lutheran of which the Rev. S.J. Thompson is pastor.
He served as deacon for a time at Evanger Lutheran church. He also served as treasurer on the school board for nine years.
He is survived by four children, Clarence, R. 1, Independence, Wis., Martha (Mrs. Samuel Hovey) Badger, Iowa, Mrs. Tena Dokken, Badger, Iowa and Oscar, R. 3, Mondovi; also sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Hans Johnson of Mondovi and several nieces and nephews.
One son, Jacob Bert, preceded him in death in 1919, in the service of his country. Two brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 23, at 1:15 at the Colby & Hemer Funeral Home in Mondovi and at 2 p.m. at the Evanger Lutheran church. Rev. O.C. Aune officiated and short addresses were also given by Rev. Sven Thompson, Badger, Iowa, Rev. Thomas Lee, St. Paul and Rev. Clifford Bruland, Badger, Iowa.
The singers were Mrs. Ray Gilbertson, Mrs. Herman Lindberg, Tom Bjorgo and Ole Indreboe.
Casket bearers were six grandchildren, Carlos Dokken, Morris Johnson, Sherman and Samuel Hovey, Burton and Herbert Johnson.
