According to the familysearch.org website for the 1880 US Census he listed his job as a carpenter.
An article in the Franklin Post, Franklin, La. dated January 27, 1977 states that Valentine Ibert served in the United States Armed Forces for a period of one year. Enrolling in 1865 he was honorably discharged on March 7, 1866. A pension earned as a result was signed by President James R. Garfield.
