John Thomas Payne, Jr., 84, of Mabelvale, Arkansas, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2010. He was born on December 7, 1925 in Wenatchee, Washington to John and Eva Payne. Johnny grew up in Portland, Oregon, and served his country in World War II as a Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd Class in the United States Navy. He was in the Special Forces and spent several months in the South Pacific islands. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. Johnny was a professional salesman extraordinaire. He worked in the shoe business much of his career, as well as, with business machines and the ice and cold storage industry. He did not believe in retirement! Johnny was a lifetime member of the American Legion and an active member of the VFW. He enjoyed square dancing, music, travel and taking lots of pictures.

Johnny is survived by his loving daughter, Cheryl Payne Burrow of Houston, Texas, and beloved friend, Barbara Smith of Mabelvale, Arkansas.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, (501)455-5800.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Reverend Don Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
