Royal Kilburn Abbott, Sr. was a son of Royal Hamilton Abbott and Louise G. Fearing. He was a leather tanner by occupation and moved his family to Asheville North Carolina when he was age 51. He owned a leather tannery there. He died at age 80 of coronary artery disease at his home in Asheville. He had, with wife Muriel, 3 children, one of whom is still living. The other two were Brian Edward Abbott and Royal Kilburn Abbott, Jr.
