Carl was serving in Bakersfield, CA so after their marriage they returned to California and Lydia later returned to Oronoco expecting their first child. Carl enjoyed fishing. Mostly local, but he did like to fish on Milacs and Leech Lake. He especially enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, cedar chests and even a spinning wheel.
