John Adams Dix from Dixville Notch, NH, to New York City and Fort Dix. A man of his time, who helped save the Union. We're proud to have found you, cousin. There will be flowers on your mother's grave come summer.

OBITUARY : GEN. JOHN A. DIX, died in New York City on Monday evening of last week, at the age of eighty-one. The career of Gen. Dix, was one of marked distinction, both in military and civil life. It falls to the lot of but a few men to be in public service for forty years. Gen. Dix, a son of a Revolutionary soldier, was born in New Hampshire, and at an early age was appointed ensign in a regiment. He had always been an anti-slavery man, and at the breaking out of the war, espoused the Union cause. During the war he distinguished himself as a Major General of volunteers, and subsequently was sent as Minister to France and was elected Governor of New York. Through all he retained the undiminished confidence and esteem of his fellow men, and bears to his grave an untarnished name, and a reputation for sturdy patriotism.
