Victor Harold McDaniel, 91, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at University Christian Church. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Victor H. McDaniel was born in Atoka, Okla., Jan. 11, 1919. He soon moved with his parents, Ed and Lora McDaniel, to Texas. He lived in several West Texas towns, but called Clarendon home as this was where he graduated from high school. He attended Clarendon Junior College before enrolling at Texas Tech and earning a degree in engineering. He was hired by a campus recruiter from North American Aviation in California and began his long career in the design and manufacture of airplanes. From California, he was sent to Grand Prairie and worked at the North American plant there until becoming an employee of General Dynamics, later to become Lockheed, in Fort Worth. He remained with Lockheed until his retirement after a 40-year career. Victor was introduced to his future wife, Shirley Hall, by a mutual friend, and they were married in October 1946. They were blessed with three children who live in Fort Worth, and with seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Victor was a longtime member of University Christian Church, where he served as chairman of the Board of Elders. He was on the board of the Friends of the TCU Library, and was treasurer of the English Speaking Union. Although he was a Texas Tech graduate, he and his wife, Shirley, a TCU graduate, held season tickets to TCU football games for many years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling abroad, especially to England and Scotland. Victor enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Ridglea Country Club. He also enjoyed trout fishing in Colorado and dove hunting in West Texas.
