The obituary for Mrs. Mary Anne Elam stated that she had died at her home east of Stewardson, Jun. 12, 1940. Burial was in the Spain Cemetery. She was born Sept. 1, 1850 to George and Nancy Williamson in Shelby county. She married William [Thomas?] Elam, Feb. 2, 1868 and he had died Feb. 20, 1894. Three children had also preceded in death. Surviving children were Mrs. Martha Smith of Mattoon; Mrs. John Ferguson, Mrs. Roy Harrington, Miss Maude Elam at home, George T. Elam of near Windsor and R. H. Elam of Stewardson. Also surviving were 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Windsor Gazette - 20 Jun 1940
