Married Samuel Smith, 1831, Tennesse. He died 27 Jun 1850, Salt Creek, Near Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska.
Children - Emma Smith, Joseph Samuel Smith, Sarah Ann Smith, Joseph Samuel Smith, Abraham Owen Smith, Martisha Rosalia Smith
Married Silas Richards, 2 Dec 1855, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
History - Martisha married Samuel Smith in Tennessee. Martisha's brother, Abraham O. Smoot, was an early leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Martisha and Samuel also joined this restored gospel. As they made their way to Salt Lake City, Samuel died in Nebraska, leaving Martisha a widow with 5 young children.
In 1855, Martisha Smith entered into a plural marriage with Silas Richards. The Richards family had lived in many of the same places as Samuel and Martisha Smith, so they knew one another. Martisha, like many other widows with young families, probably married out of necessity for the support of her family.
Three years later, on June 15, 1858, she cancelled her sealing to Silas Richards. She moved from his Fort Union home at 7200 South and 7th East. She set up another residence on her own.
Martisha is not listed in the 1860 census, but the Salt Lake City Directory of 1867, shows her living in the 12th Ward on 1st South between 5th East and 6th East. It appears she lived in the 12th ward from the time she arrived in the valley.
