Byron is the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Laughlin) Benschoter. He married Zilpha Sheets, Aug. 5, 1874. They had 10 children: Dorcas, Leonora, Thomas, Joseph, Irvin, Ida, Frank, Victor, Hazel, and Douglas.

Byron was a Farmer and a Teacher.
