MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP S.D. BUTLER, OKINAWA, Japan - Cpl. Jamie R. Lowe, 21, of Johnsonville, Illinois, died while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan Jan. 11.

Lowe was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

Lowe, a reconnaissance Marine, began active duty in the Marine Corps August 20, 2007. He was promoted to the rank of corporal January 1, 2009, and began his tour on Okinawa August 29, 2008.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal ISAF, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

"He was an outstanding Marine," said Maj. John M. South, executive officer of 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. "His loss will be deeply felt by our unit."

"He was driven to be the best and it showed in everything he did," said Maj. Jordan Walzer, Lowe's officer in charge in Afghanistan. "Corporal Jamie Lowe was one of those Marines you dream of getting in your unit."

"He was a reconnaissance Marine is every sense," said 1st Sgt. Ingo Rasch, Lowe's company first sergeant in Afghanistan. "He had a huge impact on the morale of his company and his platoon. He will be greatly missed by all those he came in contact with."

MARINE CORPORAL JAMIE RUSSEL LOWE, 21, of Johnsonville, IL was killed in action in the war in Afghanistan Monday, January 11, 2010.

Jamie was born November 15, 1988 at Fairfield, IL to Kevin L. and Teresa (Solomon) Lowe.

James was a Corporal in the US MARINE CORPS 3rd Recon with the Unit in Okinawa in Afghanistan. He was a 2007 graduate of Cisne High School; attended Orchardville Community Church and a member of Young Marines in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Jamie is survived by his parents Kevin and Teresa Lowe of Johnsonville, IL; 2 brothers - Cody and Hunter Lowe at home; grandparents - Shirley Lowe of Rinard, IL and Russel and Linda Legg of Fairfield, IL; great grandparents - Philip and Wilma Lowe of Rinard, IL and Elsie Ray of Cisne, IL. Also surviving are 3 aunts – Cristy & Brian McKinney of Fairfield, IL; Kim & Shannon Hosick of Cisne, IL; and Tammy & Trent Flexter of Oblong, IL; several great uncles, great aunts and cousins.

Preceding Jamie in death were his grandfathers Perry Lowe and James Verdell Solomon.

Funeral services for CPL Jamie Lowe will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, Jan. 20th at the Orchardville Community Church, Orchardville, IL. Pastor Mark Shell will officiate. Burial will be in Round Prairie Cemetery near Johnsonville. Friends may call 3-8PM Tuesday, Jan. 19th at the Orchardville Community Church.

Memorials may be given to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the church or the funeral home.
