Johann Georg Heimmer, as he was born in ~1800 Germany, emigrated with his wife, Barbara (Martin) and their young family from Bremen, Germany and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on November 24, 1846. "George" became a United States citizen in Brownstown, Jackson County, Indiana on November 20, 1852.
There are variations of the surname spelling. It is believed that the original German spelling was "Heimmer", as that is how it is spelled in some of the Wegan church records in Jackson county. The name then transformed to "Heimer" and then "Hemer".
George married Barbara Martin ~1828...perhaps in Berlin, as Berlin is given as the birth place for more than one of the children in their obituaries.
George and Barbara were the parents of seven known children:
