Johann Georg Heimmer, as he was born in ~1800 Germany, emigrated with his wife, Barbara (Martin) and their young family from Bremen, Germany and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on November 24, 1846. "George" became a United States citizen in Brownstown, Jackson County, Indiana on November 20, 1852.

There are variations of the surname spelling. It is believed that the original German spelling was "Heimmer", as that is how it is spelled in some of the Wegan church records in Jackson county. The name then transformed to "Heimer" and then "Hemer".

George married Barbara Martin ~1828...perhaps in Berlin, as Berlin is given as the birth place for more than one of the children in their obituaries.

George and Barbara were the parents of seven known children:

Mary Ann Christopher..~1829-<1870
Barbara Ann Snyder....~1832->1870
George Heimer Jr......10-17-1836; 11-27-1913
Catherine Boley.......7-31-1838/9; 3-17-1907
Anna Rich.............9-25-1841; 11-20-1900
Hannah Henning........2-2-1843; 5-12-1930
Nicklous Heimer.......9-15-1844; 6-13-1920

George's wife, Barbara was born ~1804 in Wurttemberg, Germany. Barbara was living with her son, George in 1880 Driftwood Twp., Jackson Co., IN. It is unclear if Barbara lived to 1884 to make the trip with her son, George to Shelby Co., IL. To date, no legible stone for Barbara has been found in Jackson County.

I am currently researching church and other records to learn more about the Heimer family.

My relationship is that George and Barbara were my gggg-grandparents.
