Harv's grandfather, James Foreman Lippincott, came from Adams County, Pennsylvania to Nebraska to take a homestead claim as a Union veteran. Harv was the first child born to J. W. "Will" and Annie Lippincott on their farm on Elm Island, in southwestern Hall County. Harv attended elementary school there and to the sixth grade in Brown County. His family then moved to Scotts Bluff County in 1915. On October 20, 1921, Harv married a neighbor girl, Ena Frances Kellums. They had two children, H. R. L. Jr. "Dick" in 1922 and Dale Laverne L. in 1925. Harv's farm operations grew in size as he raised sugar beets and sheep. He and Ena were divorced in the mid 1930s and Harv relocated his farmng operations to near Gibbon, Nebraska. Harv married his cousin, David Vance Lippincott's ex-wife, Virginia, but they were divorced in 1960. Later that same year Harv and Nancy Zupan were united in marriage and built a home in Mesa, Arizona. They remained married until his death at age 86.
