Ada Brown, daughter of Joshua Lacey Wilson Brown and Lucy Sophia Dunham Brown, was born in Paint Creek, Virginia, (now West Virginia) 18 May 1860. The family moved to Sullivan, Livingston, Illinois, prior to 1870. She married Lyman D.V. Castle there 25 April 1878. They had five children prior to her husband's death in 1899.

She was a resident of Urbana, Champaign, Illinois since 1906 and her Urbana address was that of her son Russell D.V. Castle at the time of her death. She died in St. Joseph's hospital, Phoenix, on 30 Jan 1933, while spending the winter with her son Richard Lloyd Castle.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 5, 1933 at the First Methodist Church of Reddick with the Rev. Benjamin of Omarga and the Rev. McVey of Reddick performing the services. Her survivors were sons Russell D.V. Castle of Urbana, and Richard Lloyd Castle of Phoenix, daughters Veda Studley (Mrs. John Herbert)and Ora Patchett (Mrs. Herbert Dewey)of Reddick, seven grandchildren and a brother Harry Brown of Hutcheson, Kansas.
