I still like your dissent in one of the anti-trust cases under Theodore Roosevelt, when you suggested that if sending items in the mail was part of interstate commerce, then if you got a dinner invitation it was a business offer! Thank you for your services.

Report says that Chief Justice Fuller has almost made up his mind to shave off his mustache, according to precedent. It is rumored that his colleagues on the Supreme Bench have been urging him to take this step ever since he went to Washington. We have always understood that a mustache was a protection to the eyes, as the nerves of the lips and the eyes are sympathetic. If the Chief Justice will listen to us, and desires to keep clear eyes and a "stiff upper lip," he will disregard an insensate prejudice and permit his mustache to wave with the breeze. The Lafayette Advertiser; Lafayette, Louisiana. February 16, 1889; Page Four.

July 4, 2010 is the 100th anniversary of Melville Weston Fuller's death. Sorry I'm late with this posting, great-great-granduncle Melville. But you'd be pleased to know that the Library in Sorrento, Maine, in which town you spent your summers, is putting on a commemorative event on July 31, 2010 and has invited me to speak.

In memory of my great-great-granduncle, who, like me, once practiced law in Augusta, Maine. Though he is buried in Chicago, where he made his reputation as a lawyer, became active in Democratic politics, and was eventually appointed Chief Justice by President Grover Cleveland, his memory is still revered in his home town.
