Lewis was the son of William Rufus Sprinkle & Nancy Viola ("Ola") Adams.

He married Velma Della Kitto on 11 May 1912 in Helena, Lewis & Clark Co., MT.

They had four sons: Robert Lewis; Chester Gene; John Henry; & Norman Roy.

Lewis' death notice in the Seattle Daily Times includes: "Surviving are the widow, Velma; three sons, Robert, Norman and Chester, all of Seattle; three brothers, J. M. of Seattle, Theodore, San Francisco, and Eugene Sprinkle, Weiser, Idaho; a sister, Mrs.Violet Kitto, Tacoma,and the mother, Mrs. Viola Sprinkle, Weiser, Idaho."
