Charles first married Mary Susan (McDowell) Lewis, widow of Dr. Joel Lewis of Shady Springs. They had a son Howard.

Charles married secondly Myrtle Ross Bair, a distant cousin. Charles' grandmother Ermine (Thomason) George was aunt of Myrtle's grandmother Harriet Caroline (Thomason) (Bair) Hicks.

Charles and Myrtle had two daughters, Beulah and Charlene.
