Actress. She began her career as a child in her native San Francisco, performing in stage shows before coming to New York in 1901. For the next several years she was a prominent member of Henry Miller's company, performing on Broadway. In the 1920s, she split her time between performing in the theatre and films, making her first co-lead appearance in "The Silver Cord" (1933). She was best known for the role of 'Aunt Pittypat Hamilton' in movie "Gone With the Wind" (1939). Her other credits included "New Morals for Old" (1932), "Escapade" (1935), "Confession" (1937), "The Star Maker" (1939), "The Blue Bird" (1940) and "One Foot in Heaven" (1941). She died in New York City and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
