James M. Parvis was my 3rd great grandfather who served with Company I, 13th Indiana Cavalry as a Private during the Civil War. He was the son of James Madison Parvis and Elizabeth Mott from Kent, Delaware; and the father of William M. Parvis, as well as seven other children.
